I’ve been a pretty huge fan of bacon since I was a kid.  In fact, I asked my mom for bacon and waffles pretty much every morning for breakfast.  Whenever she’d make me breakfast, I’d always beg for MORE BACON!  Alas, she was a good mom and would only give me on or two pieces.  One day she got fed up with my begging, and thought if she cooked me an entire package of bacon, that I’d get sick of it and never want it again, much like the old school stories you hear about parents catching their kids with cigarettes and making them smoke the whole pack to make them sick and never want to try a cigarette again.  Well, my poor mom’s plan backfired.  I ate the entire package of bacon, which would be a pound, I think……and…….and then……I turned to her and said:

“Mom, can I have some more?” Her plan didn’t work and I have loved bacon ever since. 

There’s been a bacon craze lately, in which bacon has risen from unhealthy breakfast companion to hip, cool ingredient.  In fact, I’ve seen bacon infused liquor, maple bacon donuts, chicken fried bacon….and more!

Last night we finally tried Frank, the new-ish Austin eatery that took over the building where Starlight used to be near 4th and Colorado.  They feature gourmet hot dogs, and locally made sausages, but there is a lot of bacon treats too.  We loved our meal, the atmosphere, and the waiters.  The service there is great and the menu has a lot of options and even has a few menu options for vegetarians. We were about to leave when I noticed a Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookie on the dessert menu.  Say What?????   So we got The Frankencookie…..which was a hot cookie made with bacon, chocolate chips, dried cranberries, and walnuts.  Then it has Amy’s coffee flavored ice cream, candied bacon bits, and was decorated with a lovely bacon swizzle stick.  It was hilarious to see and delightful to eat.  Frank, I love you, and I will be back. To those non meat eaters whom I may have offended, my apologies, but bacon and I go way back.  =)
